Career Development

We invest in our employees, and we have found that it pays big rewards. We’re committed to the training and support needed to help our employees develop throughout their careers. A new management employee starts with eight weeks of training, which includes learning all aspects of store operation. This learning plan gives you a combination of hands-on training, self-paced independent learning, and online courses.

Classes

Goodwill Retail Services offers tours and instructor-led training on retail topics throughout the year. There is also the opportunity for management to attend formal training at our 12-day Leadership Institute or through the numerous stand-alone courses offered through our Goodwill University Training Program.

Goodwill University (GU) Learning Center
Goodwill promotes employee development through engaging organizational learning. The GU Learning Center is an online resource with a selection of courses specifically designed for skill development. E-learning courses are available to employees in the areas of Leadership, Communication, Retail Operations, and Goodwill Policies and Safety.

Continuing education is also encouraged and Goodwill provides tuition reimbursement of up to 85% or $3,500 a year, for those taking college courses to support their business role at Goodwill.

Career Path
There is also a structured professional retail development curriculum called Career Path that provides the support for employees seeking advancement within our retail division. Recommended candidates must meet basic eligibility requirements and will be led through a series of activities to demonstrate competencies in customer service and leadership.
